Hi.

My name is Laura. I am on a spiritual journey and I hope you’ll join me.

My greatest desire is to pursue a meaningful life through deep reflection, authentic relationships, and time seeking the Spirit. I like to write down my thoughts and prayers which usually center around God’s all encompassing love for everyone. I also love creating and singing music that has language which points me to the Spirit’s love. My purpose is to be in a genuine relationship with God and those around me. Worship Leader @mosaicfumc at First United Methodist Church of Denton, TX.

A Prayer to the Mother

A Prayer to the Mother

No one escapes this life without living through a storm. Without living in fear.
When we fear, we can’t look to the world. The world won’t bring us any comfort. It won’t give us shelter from the storm. The world -the hate, the death, the pain - the world is the storm.

When we fear, we can’t look to ourselves. We can’t trust our own minds to tell us the truth. We bury ourselves instead of lifting our selves up. Sometimes we are our own storm.
No.
When we fear, the only place we can look is to our Mother. The Mother in whom all living things were born. The Mother who gives of Her own life and spirit to push sprouts from the earth and to fill our lungs with breath.

In the storm our Mother wraps us in Her arms. She doesn’t tell us that everything will be okay - it may not. What She tells us is that She is with us. And She does not leave. Even when we close our eyes, She hasn’t turned away.
She cannot stop the storm, but that doesn’t mean She has no power.
Her power is the power of love and life.
She is beside us, standing up no matter how strong the winds may blow. When we’ve lost our way and lost everything, She tells us the only thing we need to hear:

“My child, I have planted a seed in you. A seed of courage.”

Maybe no one in this life has watered that seed, but She will. When we listen to the Spirit of the Mother that lives within us, She will give life to that seed like she has given life to everything for all of time. Our courage can bloom. We can water each other’s seeds. We can speak the words of the Mother to each other.

May you speak love and life and courage into the lives of those around you.
May you feel your own seed of courage grow and bloom.
May you feel the arms of the Mother around you. Standing with you in the storm.
And may you know that whatever storm is surrounding you, this is not the end.

Amen.
